Here are some great tips to protect against the flu and avoid getting sick:

  1. Wash your hands often – Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 15 seconds to help prevent the spread
  2. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough – This helps prevent the spread of germs and if you don’t have a tissue, cough into your upper sleeve.
  3. Clean and disinfect surfaces – Viruses can live on surfaces for up to 8 hours, be sure to clean any shared or hard surfaces often.
  4. Stay at home when you’re sick – If you feel the symptoms of the flu, stay home to avoid spreading the germs (especially in businesses, schools or other group settings)
  5. Get the yearly flu shot – Ontario’s flu shot program can prevent up to 30,000 visits to the emergency room and 200,000 to the doctor’s office on average each year.
