Shopping with your Kids

Last Friday Kinder Buddies Oakville Daycare had the children out on a rainy day to hang out in the always sunny town Kids Play Town.  With their new found independence from their day at “Kids Play Town” here are some ways your kids can help with your errands:

  • When shopping give your child a basket so they can help with lighter items, even bring your own smaller basket that fits your child.
  • Children who can read can hold on to the shopping list help cross it off, even go over the list with them before you leave.
  • If you have time when creating your list include photos of some items that even kids that cannot read can help with. (Here is a cute print out to start! )
  • Have kids help put items on the cash counter, even the smallest ones sitting in the front seat of the shopping can help if you pass them some light items.
  • When finished shopping have your child help put back the cart or put away the basket.
  • Engage your kids by helping them choose some things on the spot. (Ex: Fruit – Bananas or Apples?)

Always remember that while your kids are helping from the shopping cart they should always remain seated either inside the cart or in the specific baby seat. When standing there is a high risk of children falling. To help with a smoother shopping trip try to schedule errands at a time when your kids will not be hungry or need a nap.
