5 Popular Childrens Books

Reading with your child is the first activity you can share with your child regardless of their development stage. Reading encourages the development of language, speech, imagination, creativity, as well as the most obvious: reading comprehension. This week we have assembled a list of our favourite and most popular Childrens books to share with you and your kids.

The great thing about books is you don’t even need to purchase them all to read them. A trip to the library, with or without your child, makes education easy and inexpensive.

Love You Forever
Love You Forever

#1: Love you Forever  – By Robert Munsch

Love your Forever by Robert Munsch tells the story of a mother and her relationship with her son from infancy to adulthood.  While all of the Robert Munsch books are great for kids and learning, Love You Forever can hold just as much significance for your child as it does for you the parent. The story in Love You Forever preaches unconditional love not only from the parents, but the love and support children can and will eventually have for their parents.

#2: The Giving Tree – Shel Silverstein

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is another book that parents can enjoy as much as their children. The Giving Tree takes on some complex themes such as unconditional love, consequences, and responsibility. While children may not be able to fully comprehend the themes when they are young, they may have lots of questions which can lead to some great conversations about sharing, giving, and consequences.

#3:  Where the Wild Things Are – Maurice Sendak

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is the best book for your most rambunctious and unique child. Growing pains are a part of growing up and even the youngest children can feel unique or out of place. While kids usually grow into themselves, it’s always so important to celebrate their differences. This book stokes the imagination and promotes conversation on forgiveness and dealing with frustration. Everyone has had a moment where they’ve wanted to run away from stress, and kids are no different.

#4: Oh the Places You will Go – Dr. Seuss

This wouldn’t be a great list of kids books without at least one Dr. Seuss book. Children will often fail at things, it’s a normal part of growing up! It’s important to promote the idea of getting up and going forward, which is why we chose to hi-lite “Oh the Places You Will Go”. Dr. Seuss books are all well known for being well written with more than enough imagination stoking images and worlds. Remind your kids that they are capable of anything with the empowering Oh the Place You will Go.

#5: The Story of Ferdinand – Munro Leaf

Finishing this list with a little less known but still popular The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. The Story of Ferdinand follows a bull who is a little different from other Bulls and prefers gentler activities as opposed to bull fighting. The Story of Ferdinand celebrates a childs individuality and promotes a peace keeping over violence atitude, something all parents can celebrate. Ferdinand is funny and at the same time cute; another story for parents and kids to enjoy together.
