5 Family Movies Featuring Dad

Last Friday Kinder Buddies Oakville daycare had our annual Father Day BBQ to celebrate all dads! Fathers are a pillar of families and it’s always great to treat Dad whenever you can. What better way to relax with dad than a movie? We have compiled a list of movies that feature and celebrate kids relationships with their fathers. At the bottom of the page we have more photos from our BBQ! Enjoy!

Finding Nemo (G)

When Nemo is taken from the Great Barrier reef his Father Marlin sets out to find him at all costs. An adorable movie that follows a single father trying to get his son back. Marlins determination to find his son is a great example of a Fathers unconditional love. Great movie for the whole movie. Bonus: Finding Dory the sequel is currently in theatres!

Hotel Transylvania (G)

Hotel Transylvania follows starts with a Vampire Dad trying to throw a party for his daughters 118th birthday at the Hotel for Monsters he runs. Dracula is an overprotective father while his daughter Mavis is ready to spread her (bat) wings and fly! This movie is a great example of a Father/Daughter relationship. Bonus: The sequel is just as fun and focuses on Dracula taking care of his Grandson!

Lion King (G)

Lion King follows Simba, a lion cub, after his father dies and he is cast out from his home. Instead Simba is raised by a Meerkat and Warthog Combo that teach him how to enjoy life and eventually go back home. While this movie doesn’t automatically jump out as a “Father” centred movie we do recognize that not all families have a central father figure. This movie is great for children who have lost their Father or were raised by other “Father” figures. Timone and Pumba make great surrogate Fathers and are a great example of Step Fathers, Grandfathers, and any other Father figure a child has.

The Incredibles (PG)

Family of Superheros are forced to leave Suburbia to save the world. A lot of dads are definitely superheros so it makes sense to include an actual “Super Dad”. This is a fun movie that everyone in the family can enjoy. It’s also great to see different relationships between mom and dad. This movie spends a lot of time focusing on the mother and fathers relationship which parents can relate to.

Tron Legacy (PG)

Sam Flynn’s father disappeared one day, but he was convinced he would find his Father again. Sam soon finds himself immersed in a computer world, convinced this is where his father is. This movie may be more appealing to older children (10+) but still a great movie and just as interesting for adults! Tron Legacy represents the strength of bonds between Father and Son.
