Creative ways to Keep Cool

We are heading into August and the summer heat shows no sign of slowing any time soon. Kinder Buddies Oakville is excited to share some fun ways to keep cool this summer.

Make sure to always stay sun safe if playing outside, check out our post on Sun Safety for avoiding sun burns. If you are looking for a summer adventure outside the home check out our post on Day Trips in the GTA.

DIY Sprinkler

On a hot day without any water toys there are a few ways to create your own Sprinkler! Turn a pool noodle into a sprinkler by attaching it to the end of a hose. Make sure to block off the end with tape and then cut holes into the noodle. For more step by step directions please use this awesome tutorial by Ziggity Zoom “Pool Noodle Sprinkler“.

Another similar idea if you don’t have a pool noodle: use a 2 litre pop bottle! Duct tape the pop bottle to the hose and poke holes into the pop bottle.

Sweet Treats

Ice cream and popsicles are Summer Staple but filled with so much sugar! Instead pick up some Popsicle sticks from the dollar store and stick them into cups of yogurt! Stick the yogurt in the freezer and have a healthy alternative to Popsicles.

If you have more time you can also create your own fruit filled popsicles made with juice or coconut water! For more information on how to create your own fruit piece popsicles check out our article on Fun Snacks for Kids!

Keeping kids hydrated can be hard if they don’t like plain water and most juices are filled with so much sugar! Try serving an Iced Tea using Loose leaf tea without sugar! Some Teas are so sweet they don’t need any extra. Many tea shops sell pitchers for turning loose leaf tea into iced tea. Another option is adding fresh cut and washed fruit to a pitcher of water!

Sponge Balls

Water balloons are lots of fun, but really messy and leave behind a lot of garbage. A fun alternative is to use pool toy sponge balls. An even cheaper DIY alternative is turning kitchen Sponges into balls! They can be reused and are really easy to “refill”. Mystery Ice Cubes

Put small toys (think Kinder Egg sized) into an ice cube tray. Will with water and have your kids “excavate” and melt the eggs to find what’s inside.

We hope you enjoyed our list. If you have any other fun ways to stay cool let us know in the comments! Have a safe summer.
