Better Valentines Cards – non-candy

Valentines can be a wonderfully fun holiday for kids. Teaching children empathy and encouraging healthy friendships is an important part of childhood. Unfortunately with food allergies finding fun treats to hand out at your daycare or school gets tricky. Today we at Kinder Buddies Child Care go over some ways to kick your valentines cards up a notch without the sugar this Valentines day!

Book Marks

Book Marks are easy to make at home if you’re crafty and have the time. Break out the Washi Tape/Construction Paper/Stickers and have your little one help you work on custom book marks. Enjoy the idea of encouraging reading but don’t have the time for 20+ individual book marks? We love these free printables by Family Focus Blog

Crayons

Attach one or two crayons to your valentines cards using Washi tape. Crayons are super useful and add something cute to a regular card. Up your game by printing black and white cards at home and pasting them on some construction paper (to add some thickness so they don’t rip easily). Now the child receiving the card not only has new crayons but a little picture to colour in! These printable valentines from Craftaholics Anonymous are very cute!

Home Made Slime

Slime seems to be the hottest toy for kids these days and it’s so easy to make at home! Have your kids help you make a big batch at home and put a little slime in some small dollar store plastic containers. There are plenty of different types and recipes available at Little Bins for Little Hands.

Not a fan of slime? You can purchase small pre-packaged playdough for a similar treat with a different texture.

Small Figures

Adding a small figure to your valentines cards is a simple way to make your cards stand out! Possibilities are endless, toy cars, dinosaurs, animals, whatever your child likes! The best place to grab the toys would be at your local dollar store! For some inspiration check out Sarah M Styles safari themed valentines!

For our Kinder Buddies families just a reminder that to safeguard children who have allergies, we request parents not to bring treats. If you have any concerns feel free to contact us!
