Quarantine Birthdays for Kids

Quarantine birthdays, woman sits with young girl on laptop

Quarantine or no quarantine birthdays are coming, so today we discuss throwing the best birthday from home. Normalcy has disappeared for families in the midst of quarantine and this can be especially hard on kids. As a child birthdays are one day to feel especially loved and cool, so we want to continue that tradition. Today we list some fun tips on having a great party from home.

Distanced Visits

The best part of birthday parties is catching up with family and friends. While face to face parties cannot exist as they did before, consider properly distanced visits! Have kids visit grandparents homes and wave from the window, or have grandparents visit outside.

Some families have also opted for car “parades” where family members hang signs on the car and slowly drive by waving.

Have a Digital Party

Use an application to have people tune in and gather digitally. Some applications you can use:

  • WhatsApp (4 People on Screen)
  • Facebook Messenger (6 people on screen)
  • FaceTime (32 callers – but limited to Apple Products)
  • House Party (8 Callers – Can play games as well)
  • Skype (50 Callers)
  • Zoom (Free account includes up to 100 Callers but is limited to 40 mins)

Fun Online Activities

  • Watch a movie at the same time, have everyone set up a movie and all press start at the same time!

  • Play tabletop board games online:
    • Tabletopia has every game under the sun with some free options
    • Hasbro has some games for sale online

  • Do a scavenger hunt! Create a list in advance and send it to the parents of kids attending. Have them gather household items and whoever gets the whole list first wins! Some items to consider:
    • Something Red
    • Something Blue
    • Favourite Book
    • Bath Toy
    • Something Soft
    • Something with a Number on it

  • Play Simon Says: Have everyone follow the leader. Whenever someone loses they are now it.

  • Charades: private message someone an animal to act out and have everyone guess the animal. Whoever guesses correctly first gets to go next. This can also be done in teams.

Load up on Cards and Gifts Early

Unfortunately with everyone home everyone is having everything delivered. Cards and gifts will need to be sent through the mail. Reach out to family and friends a two months in advance to see if they are interested in sending a card or gift. Collect the mail and save it all for the party!
