Toddler Activities for Halton Winter 2024

Christmas is over, and Canadians are settling in for a long winter with our toddlers. There’s no reason to hide inside the entire season, but we have assembled a list of some great family-friendly events to get you out of the house. We will include some indoor and outdoor to help you out even during inclement weather!

Tobogganing

Tobogganing is a natural Canadian family tradition, unfortunate we don’t get much snow often. When we do it doesn’t last long. But if you’re family is in luck on a snow day here are a few favourite hills in Oakville:

  • Old Abbey Park (1110 Old Abbey Ln)
  • Appleby College (540 Lakeshore Road West)
  • Corner of Oxford Avenue and Upper Middle (Good for littles)
  • Bronte Creek (1219 Burloak Drive)
  • Tannery Park (5 Walker St)
  • Memorial Park (120 Oak Park Blvd)

Holiday Lights by the Park (Coronation Park Oakville)

If you didn’t have a chance to see the holiday lights set up at Coronation Park Oakville due to the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season now is your time! Lights will continue to be until February!

1426 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville, ON L6L 1G2

Outdoor Skating

Outdoor rinks are another Canadian tradition and best of all they are free! All listed locations are free to use as long as there is space. You will only need to buy rentals if you don’t have equipment.

Take an Easy Hike (Hamilton Bayfront Park)

200 Harbour Front Dr, Hamilton, ON L8L 1C8
Bayfront Park has tons of parking and a giant paved path loop that goes around the bay (est 15-20 minute walk), popular with bikers and rollerblades in the summer. The path is simple enough you can go around as many times as you like, and the pavement is stroller/wagon-friendly. There are many grassy spots in the middle of the loop if your kid wants to wander and play.

If you want to go out for a hike but are not sure your toddler could commit for too long this location is a life changer! Beautiful location as well.

Cineplex Family Favourites (Saturday Morning)

On Saturday Mornings many local Cineplex locations show old movies for a really affordable price ($2.99* Online Tickets may have fees)

What’s so amazing is these are older movies, kids can relax a bit more be themselves. Everyone is just heading to the movies as a family to hang out. January movies included: Paw Patrol, Super Mario Bros, and even Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki.
