Strawberry Picking with Kinder Buddies at Andrew’s Scenic Acres

Earlier in June, Kinder Buddies visited Andrew’s Scenic Acres to go strawberry picking. It was a day ripe with discovery, adventure, and fresh air!

Located in Halton Hills, Andrew’s Scenic Acres is a family-owned farm built on 165 acres of scenic escarpment, hence the name of the farm itself.

Throughout the season, Andrew’s Scenic Acres offers harvesting for asparagus, fresh berries, rhubarb, pumpkins, squash, and flowers, among other produce. It also features a fresh market where visitors can buy freshly harvested fruits and veggies, baked goods, seeds, and other goods.

Other activities on the farm include:

  • A petting zoo
  • A corn maze
  • Tractor rides

… and scenic photo opportunities around every bend.

The Kinder Buddies excursion mainly consisted of picking fresh fruit in the fields. There are so many benefits — in addition to securing a batch of fresh strawberries, of course — of picking fruits in fields, especially for kids.

Engaging in physical activity

In specific, it helps them develop and improve their motor skills and overall coordination. Above walking, bending, reaching, and carrying, your little ones learn to balance their mind with their body as they hunt for the ripest fruits in the field.

Connecting with and discovering nature

Of course, picking out their own fruits in a field encourages your little ones to strengthen their bond with nature while giving them outdoor time. Not only do they learn to appreciate nature, but they also learn about how nature provides us with nourishment.

Having sensory experiences

Your little ones also exercise multiple senses while selecting their own fruits, including sight, touch, and smell. After you wash and inspect their fruits, they can also experience taste!

Building healthy eating habits

Fruit may not be their go-to snack before fruit picking, but it might become their go-to snack after. Picking their own fruit helps children contribute to their own meals in a fun and healthy way. It also gives them insight into how food or ingredients make their way to a table, a process that’s important for adults to be conscious of too.
